Schedule incoming! Expect multiple dev twitch streams, and kick-off / wrap up live events!
This might seem like the most important part, but I must emphasize its much smaller than you realize! The best ideas for game jams are a single mechanic or two and the genre you want to make. Your game will change and morph as you work on it, so just choose something that seems fun and start to run with it!
Don't be afraid to copy an existing concept/idea from a game you like! For example, when learning to cook you make mac and cheese before you start making your own dishes. You know what it should taste like so you can tweak from there
If you have no idea what direction to go, you can make a game with the jam’s optional theme! This year’s theme is: Upgrades!
Example themes: Rolling dice/randomization, joined together, role reversal, time, etc. The purpose of a theme is a vague direction you can start with and do something creative around! More examples
The theme is optional. Make the tiny game you want to make!

One of the hardest parts of game development is figuring out how big of a project you want to do. This process is called scoping!
For this game jam, the goal is to keep the scope small. Like the 10 minute example in the video to the left. We want to finish our projects before the deadline, so set your expectations accordingly.
For example, instead of trying to do a full Mario style platformer with tons of levels, enemies, and mechanics, you might choose to do the first two levels with one or two types of enemies.
Submissions for this game jam should be shooting for a 3-10 minute experience
Remember, you can always expand and add to your finished project after the jam! Its ok to think of the jam project as a “demo” if you want to turn it into a bigger game later!
